Ruka's Coordinate!

I've been loving the spring/summer trend of red accents and wanted to challenge myself by throwing pink into the mix. ♥

Top: Forever 21
Skirt: Spinns
Bag: Angelic Pretty
Shoes: DreamV/Newlyme
Socks: Forever 21
Scarf: Amazon
Barrette: Taobao
Sunglasses: Spinns

And where did I wear this exciting outfit to?!
Well, to class... You don't need an occasion to dress up! ˊ_>ˋ

Trends:

1) Red Pieces and Accents
Red gives such a fun, bold, and retro touch to outfits. Incorporating red has always seemed relatively simple to me: You choose a single red major piece and you balance it with smaller red accents.

2) Retro graphic tees
Eri has already mentioned this trend in her outfit post. Graphic tees with retro-style prints or text are a great way to add an interesting edge to a casual look!

3) Choker-style neckwear
It recently occurred to me that my choice of neckwear didn't have to be limited to necklaces! I love the look of small square scarves so I recently decided to invest in a couple of them. The biggest challenge was to make the rest of the outfit look intentional enough so that the scarf would not appear costume-like (lol).

Process:

Since I love both red and pink, I tried coordinating with both colors. The task was a little daunting at firstespecially since red and pink are so similar. After some experimentation, I personally found that red-based pinks and true pinks (which strike an even balance between red and blue) work best alongside true reds. I made sure to space the same colors out so that they would remain distinct. I added black and white pieces to reduce the overall saturation of the look.

Inspiration:

The color palette I chose for this coordinate was in part inspired by mansikka's gorgeous outfits ideas in red, pink, and white. (And do check out mansikka's blogit's lovely!)

I was also inspired by some of the photos from Katie the Store's blog. I particular enjoyed the retro graphics, the usage of red, and the pink frilly skirt!

All the images below are linked to their respective Katie blog posts.

Thank you for reading my coordinate post.  I would love to hear your comments and suggestions, so please share them!

Until next time!
